My Dad (Sgt Horace Edward Blackwell) took these snaps while serving in the 49 Sqdn RAF from the turret of a big Avro Lincoln Bomber in June 1953 (it looks almost identical to the famous 4 engine Lancaster that it replaced it but without the mid upper turret). He was the tail gunner and on this exercise they were doing weather recce’s for the Queen’s Coronation flypast, hence the big coronation crown in the centre of the Well Hall roundabout photo, which is clearly visible if you zoom in.
Many thanks to Simon for contributing these photos to the Prefab Museum.
