We moved to Shrublands in 1948. We lived in a cul-de-sac of eight prefabs off Laurel Crescent with open ground and woods all round. My sister, Maureen, and I both went to Spring Park School and I moved on to Old Palace and Maureen to Shirley Sec. We have many happy memories of our time there playing with our friends in the road. When I was fourteen we moved to a new flat in Bramble Close, leaving our lovely prefab and garden. I now live in Hertfordshire and Maureen in Suffolk.

We lived at Larch Tree Way from around 1954 – 57, moving to The Glade. I remember Spring Park school very well, and as an infant Bridle Path where my grandad took me. We had an Alsatian called Bob. He’d wait until the end of school day, I remember getting covered in builders slime, on the Estate which was being built, and now exists. Look forward to anyone of the same age. I am 72 now, birth 26/12/1951

I was 3 when we moved into Bracken Avenue in 1947. I remember the evening we arrived sitting in deck chairs listening to Dick Barton Special Agent with its evocative music. We were right at the left side end on the bit of cul-de- sac. No traffic then, spent the next 10 years playing in the road with all the other children and hopping over the fence into the woods at the back, building camps and climbing trees. Happy days….Went to newly built Spring Park Primary School, can still smell the awful dinners!
